Science Rendezvous 2024 – Sensory Friendly Zone!

To find out more about Science Rendezvous and how to get free tickets for the Sensory Friendly Zone, check out the information and link below! Free tickets are available for pickup as of April 23. There is also a link below to a booklet on how to prepare your children for the event.

Coordinators of Science Rendezvous Kingston are delighted to announce that the Science Rendevous will have a designated sensory-friendly space on the 3rd floor of SLUSH PUPPIE PLACE with a bird’s eye view of the ground floor activities. This space is great for children who would benefit from experiencing the event in a space that has been thoughtfully designed to be calmer, quieter, less crowded and with neurodiversity in mind. This event takes place on Saturday May 11, 2024.

The Sensory Friendly Zone will be away from the large crowds, loud noises, bright lights and other sensory stimuli present in the main bowl and concourse of SLUSH PUPPIE PLACE and Tragically Hip Way. It will feature many specially-selected booths with a kinesthetic focus. Children will have opportunities to dig for raptor talons and shark teeth, watch rubber duckies surf the tide in a wave pool, play video games designed by local students, examine rocks under a microscope, build a bridge, learn about local ticks, turtles and fish, be a plant doctor; and make a coded bracelet.

Adults who accompany the children can join in the activities or take a moment to enjoy the Parent Café where they can have a cup of coffee, look at some literature, and talk with experts.

Tickets will be available for pick-up at the Box Office (Gate 4) of SLUSH PUPPIE PLACE beginning on TUESDAY APRIL 23, 2024.

We are also providing a digital book for families to help prepare their children for coming to Science Rendezvous Kingston. This fun, fully-narrated graphic book by award-winning children’s author and illustrator, Peggy Collins, walks families through what they can expect to see and hear on arrival and also describes what they can do at the event. It includes a map, schedule and invitation to each of the booths. You can find this fantastic resource at:
