After more than 40 years of operation in Kingston, the Learning Disabilities Association of Kingston will be closing – LDA Ontario will maintain presence in Kingston.
Like many small not for profits, LDAK has been facing challenges finding adequate funding for our organization and difficulties finding enough volunteers. Our current volunteers are aging and moving away from volunteering. In June, at the time of our Annual General Meeting, we were unable to assemble a slate of candidates for our Board Executive positions, leaving us without a President, Vice-President or Treasurer. As a result, we faced a governance crisis that we were unable to resolve and the decision was made to dissolve the LDAK chapter.
LDAK has been fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who have devoted untold hours of their time and expertise to help us continue to support the local LD community. We have been very successful! We have delivered quality supports and services like reading camps, literacy tutoring, webinars and forums, and information services. We have been advocates for people with LDs, serving on committees at Limestone District School Board and collaborating with other community-based organizations to promote overall educational equity and inclusion. *** Thank you to all our volunteers! ***
Fortunately, the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario, our parent organization, has committed to maintain a presence in Kingston, taking over and maintaining website resources and ensuring the availability of support contact so you can continue to get information about local supports and services. Please continue to watch our website for the upcoming changes!
It has been a long and wonderful journey for LDAK, and we are grateful to have been part of the Kingston landscape and community. Thank you for your support and engagement. We wish you all the best!
